MEQ Graphics began as doodles and sketches inside the covers of my Algebra, Biology and English books back at Nicholls State University back in the late 80's. I began drawing back in high school and every now and then someone (usually a family member or friend) would request a drawing of some sort or a logo design for their business. I was glad to do it and was excited that they saw some talent in me. It gave me confidence and the will to want to succeed in the graphics business.
After graduating college in 1989, I became a freelance artist. The idea of working from my own office and setting my own hours was very exciting. What wasen't so exciting was the fact that clients were not beating down the door for my creative abilities. After two years of literally being a starving artist, I began my search for a position within a company that would allow me to learn the graphics industry inside and out. Two days before my 25th birthday I got that position. Actually it wasen't a position but a job. A job that, because of my work ethic and willingness to learn, allowed me to be involved in all areas of one of the better known graphics companies in New Orleans. I started applying vinyl to signs and then installing them. Later on I was introduced to screen printing which enabled me to see the problems printers face on a daily basis. This was very helpful in that I could now design with both designer and printers eyes. A couple of years learning sales and time spent in the fabrication department all combined to make a well rounded artist ready to make the next step.
I made the decision to leave the company in 2000. MEQ Graphics had now become a full time job as the demands on me increased. The business has steadily grown from those days of turning out modest drawnings and business logos. Now MEQ Graphics makes its home in Mandeville, Louisiana and although the doors are still not being beaten down, I do find myself having to oil the hinges once or twice a week.
When the owner is not working, he spends his time bass fishing the productive waters of Southern Louisiana.
